Two plays written by Horton Foote set in Harrison, Texas. The Dancers is about a kid taking a pretty girl to a dance and Blind Date is a coming of age story about a couple.
Horace is visiting his sister who has arranged a date for him with Emily Crews, the prettiest girl in town. The date is for a dance, but Horace doesn't know how to dance, and worse yet Horace discovers that Emily is being forced by her mother to go to the dance with him. With his self-confidence dashed he finds himself in a soda fountain where he meets Mary Catherine, a young girl who,helps him to build his confidence; together they practice the jitterbug dance, which they will do at the final dance for the season.
